March 2019

Yesterday, Entertainment and gist hub heard of  a sad story of a six months old girl, Michelle, who died in mysterious circumstances in a daycare at Britmax International School, Abuja.
While the school is alleging that the child suffocated, the mother believes there is more to what happened to her daughter.
Mrs Onoja in a chat with Entertainment and gist hub today, said that an engineer who went to the school today to check the CCTV footage, was shocked to find out that the footages in the hard drive had been wiped out.
''The case has now been transferred to the CID and they are now investigating it but I don't know how long it will take. Right now we are demanding for the CCTV footage but there has been a lot of compromise around it. Today, I got a call from the person that installed the CCTV. On the day this incident happened, I told the officers on duty to go and check the CCTV but i wasn't getting any response. So personally had to send the proprietress of the school a message not to delete the CCTV since I was calling her repeatedly and even the secretary and the staff of the school, nobody was picking my call. I resorted to sending her a message so that there will be evidence that I asked for it. I wanted the CCTV footage so that I could actually see what happened on that day in the school.
As at Wednesday March 27th, they told us they have deleted the CCTV and I have evidence showing where the proprietress said that but as of today, when they brought the installer of the CCTV, he said when he came on the 12th, he requested for a flash to put the footage in it but when he asked for payment, nobody gave him any concise answer, so he left. Coming back a week after that day to drop the footage, he said he was surprised that all the footages from the 12th of January had been deleted. This is what he said today.
He said he now had to call his boss who instructed him to go and check the hard disk. He said normally the hard disk is supposed to contain footages atleast for three months and even if there is need to delete anything if it is filled, it would not delete recent information. It will go way back like October, November and not January information. So he was surprised that the information had been wiped out. So this is the latest development.
The question now is who deleted the footages? They should produce the CCTV footage. This is how the school has been indicted in this. They are hiding something. Was my daughter murdered on purpose? Beacuse it is whatever they tell me now that I have to believe. I don't know whether my daughter's nose was closed. Maybe somebody murdered her because the autopsy shows suffocation which can also be by closing the nose of the child and the baby not getting oxygen. It is not only by choking. Also the tip of her nose was red. That means there was pressure on that part of her nose. So I really do not know'' she said
Speaking further, the distraught mother said
My child is not a Sickle cell as the school is claiming. I am an AA while my husband is AA so I don't know where the story of my baby being a sickle cell is coming from. She is a very healthy baby. The first time we went to the police station, the police officer ordered for the detention of the proprietress. When I left the station, I thought the proprietress had been detained but she made a call to a big man there and the big man came and questioned the Officer in Charge(homicide)  and asked him not to detain the proprietress''.

The trial of Abiodun Agbele, an aide to a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, continued on March 28, 2019, with a prosecution witness narrating how he coordinated the movement of the N1.2bn slush fund, in the build-up to the Ekiti governorship election in 2014.
Agbele is standing trial before Justice Nnamdi Dimg alt='How Fayose's aide, Abiodun Agbele coordinated the evacuation of N1.2bn cash - Witness tells court' of a Federal High Court, Abuja, along with three companies – Sylvan Mcnamara Limited linked to a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; De Privateer Limited run by him, and Spotless Investment Limited whose bank account was allegedly being operated by Fayose and his wife, Feyisetan.

Testifying as the third prosecution witness, Biodun Oshode, Zonal Head of Zenith Bank Plc, South-West, while being led in evidence by counsel for the EFCC, Wahab Shittu, further narrated the role he played towards the movement of the cash on May 17, 2014.
He said: "It was Biodun Agbele that coordinated the movement, he came with security and we went to the airport.
“On the 17th of June 2014, I got a call from my colleague who is the Zonal Head of South-West 1, Ibadan branch that the customer has some lodgement with the Bank, that the cash will be coming through the Akure Airport, and Biodun Agbele came to the branch with security to go and evacuate the cash to the Ibadan branch with our bullion van.”
He further told the court that the slush fund was handed over to Agbele, adding that he also “supplied the accounts in which the money was disbursed into”.
He gave the accounts to include, De Privateer Ltd, Spotless Ltd and Ayo Fayose's account.
He revealed that De Privateer account received N219,400,000; Spotless Ltd received N100,000,000 and Ayo Fayose's personal account was credited with N137,000,000, while balance of N200,000,000 was taken to Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The prosecution, thereafter, tendered the statement of the witness volunteered to the EFCC during investigation, and it was admitted in evidence. Another statement made to the EFCC on July 25, 2016 was also admitted in evidence, including a covering letter from Zenith Bank Plc with bank statements of De Privateer Ltd admitted, and covering letter from Zenith Bank Plc to the EFCC with bank statements of De Privateer Ltd.
No objection was raised by the defence team. Under cross-examination by counsel for the first defendant, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the witness however, denied receiving any instruction from Agbele concerning evacuation of the cash.
“The instruction was from his colleague, Lawrence Akande,” he said. Ozekhome, further asked him if the procedure for the transaction was legal, and he said, “Yes”. He further stated that the slush fund was flown-in, in a single plane, and no action was taken against him concerning the transaction.
When asked if he knew Obanikoro or had any dealings with him, he stated that he had never met nor had any dealings with Obanikoro other than being the Minister of the Federal Republic.
During his cross-examination by the counsel for the second defendant, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, he noted that someone who is not a signatory to an account cannot withdraw money from it, adding that he did not know the office where the lodgement took place. The fourth prosecution witness, Fajuyitan Olaitan, who was Head Treasury at the Head Office of Diamond Bank, Lagos, while being led in evidence by Shittu, told the court that he received an instruction to process “a high valued transaction”, which could only be made at the Head Office of the bank through the department he was heading.
He was thereafter confronted with the statement he volunteered to the EFCC during investigation, which he confirmed to be his. The statement was tendered by the prosecution as evidence, and it was admitted as exhibit. He said: “On June 16, a debit transaction was carried out on an account (Sylver McNamara) and a sum of N1.2bn was debited from the account and another debit of N0.2m was debited on the Sylver McNamara account.”
Under cross-examination by Ojo, the witness claimed that he did not know the person that issued a payment instruction regarding the debit transaction as his duty only bordered around processing of the debit. The matter has been adjourned to May 24 and 27, 2019 for “continuation of cross-examination”.

Nigerians are currently having a heated debate online after the video of Lagos-based Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, adminishing men against sex before marriage, surfaced online.
In the video, the pastor who recently had a spat with singer, Simi over his stance on women and marriage, said men should stay off premarital sex as it ends up destroying their destinies. '
'Dear single man, please don't fall for the trick that men can live anyhow, it is women that should keep themselves. Sexual immorality destroys destiny. All the grace of God in your life that you should have been using to gain mileage and make progress, you are emptying it on top of a woman. Sexual Immorality will reduce a man to a piece of Bread, it is taking the glory over your life. You will never become what you are meant to be if you have no self control. You think you are the one using women? You say to I have slept with many girls. If only God can open your eyes  to see how you are ''uselessing'' your destiny There is life flowing from you whenever you are sleeping with somebody you are not married to. It drains you, deadens the sensitivity of your spirit. Adultery stays in family except it is uprooted. You are just passing problems to your children'' the pastor said
Nigerians are indifferent about the message. While some support the pastor's message, others are of the opinion that sex doesn't affect destinies. One person said most porn stars have more money that morally upright people. Watch the video and see their reactions below.

Medics were left dumbfounded when a post man who had 'died' of cardiac arrest came back to life as he was being wheeled to the morgue.
Joao Araujo, 48, bent over at the wheel while taking his wife to work, and after six hours of trying to bring him back, doctors told his family he’d died. But, as nurses were wheeling him from intensive care to the morgue, they noticed he was moving and tests revealed circulation had spontaneously returned to Mr Araujo’s heart.
Araujo was able to return to work there weeks after the incident.
A group of medics said there was no exact explanation for what happened to him.
Araujo is known as the ‘Miracle Man’ on the cardiac ward at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he resurrected 10 years ago.
Sharing his story 10 years on,  Araujo, from Linden, Gloucester, said:
it changed me. I give more value to all the things every day. Every single day. I say thank you that I am alive, I say thank you that I have a job. I give more value to my family and my friends. When I was at the hospital they had no explanation for my problem so people started calling me the ‘Miracle Man’. Unlike everything else in the body below the eyes, they said that the brain is a mystery, it’s like a Pandora’s Box.They did not have the knowledge to know the reason behind what happened. Doctors can’t believe I am alive without any damage in my heart, brain or body.
Araujo visits the cardiology ward every six months for a check-up and is still known by staff as the ‘Miracle Man’.

The Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, as the winner of the election which held in September last year.
The Tribunal made the declaration today March 22nd after dismissing a preliminary objection against the petition of the PDP and Senator Adeleke, challenging the September 2018 governorship election in the state. The preliminary objection was filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in the election, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Delivering a ruling on the preliminary objection, Justice Obiora Obi who is a member of the three-man Tribunal held that the petition was competent. He also stated that the Tribunal has the jurisdiction to hear and determine it.
The judge held that there was merit in the appeal filed by the PDP and Senator Adeleke, adding that the declaration and return of Governor Oyetola by INEC was null and void.

An official of Standard Chartered Bank, Ifeoma Okeagbue, on Thursday gave details of the balances on the five different accounts of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, to the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Punch reports that Okeagbue, who is Team Leader, Priority Banking, as well as Onnoghen’s Relationship Manager at the branch of the bank in Wuse II, Abuja, said all the bank accounts were still active.
Testifying as the third prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of the suspended CJN on charges of false and non-declaration of assets, Okeagbue said the accounts, opened separately between 2009 and 2010, were in euro, pound, dollar and naira denominations.
Led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Aliyu Umar (SAN), Okeagbue said the euro and the pounds accounts were savings, the dollar account was current, while the two other accounts were in naira denominations, with one being savings account and the other current.
Reading from the statements of the accounts earlier admitted as exhibits, Okeagbue said,

A prosecution witness, O. Kennedy, in the on-going trial of a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, told Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State how the former governor bought properties in Lagos at the costs of N190m and $175,000, respectively.
Fayose, alongside his company, Spotless Investment Limited, was arraigned by EFCC on October 22, 2018, on an 11-count charge bordering on fraud and money laundering.
during proceedings, the seventh prosecution witness, (PW7), Kennedy, a lawyer, told the court that he drafted the documents with which Fayose bought a Charlet at No.100 Tiamiyu Savage, Victoria Island, Lagos for N190million and a property worth $175,000 through one Abiodun Agbele and J.J. Technical Limited.
Led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, Kennedy told the court that the parties to the agreement in respect of the transaction were Noga Hotels Nigeria Limited, as the signor and J.J. Technical Limited, as the signee. He further stated that he was briefed by his client, Agbele, on the transaction before he drafted the documents for the purchase of the property, adding that Agbele told him to increase the price of the property in the document.
Kennedy upon cross-examination by the defence team, stated that he did not attend any meeting between the parties involved in the transaction; he, however, disclosed that he was getting privilege information from some staff of J.J. Technical Limited. When asked by Olalekan Ojo, SAN, counsel to the second defendant, if the statement he made to the EFCC on the transaction was entirely true, the witness said, "to the best of my knowledge, I did not lie. But a lie in error may have occurred."
The witness admitted that he did not include in his statement to the EFCC that he was told to inflate the cost of the property in the transaction document he drafted. In his testimony, ninth prosecution witness, PW9, Joseph Cosen Michelle, Managing Director, J.J. Technical Limited, an Ondo-based construction company, told the court that the company was incorporated in 2007 by himself, his brother and brother-in-law.
Michelle, an Arabian, said after the incorporation of the company, that contracts did not come their way, and that he did not know about any property bought by J.J. Limited. Upon cross-examination by the defence counsel, Michelle admitted having knowledge of a "Letter Of Authority" written to his brother, Maron Michelle, said to be given to Abiodun Agbele to help J.J. Technical Limited source for contracts.
He told the court that he was a joint owner of J.J. Technical Limited, which is the company Fayose allegedly used for the purchase of the property, but told the court that he did not know that his company was involved in the purchase of any property until he was invited by the EFCC.
In his own testimony, the tenth prosecution witness, PW10, Maron told the court that he was also a joint owner of J.J. Technical Limited, adding that, "he has some relationship with the Ekiti State government under the administration of Ayodele Fayose.
According to Maron, "J.J. Technical Limited belongs to me, my brother and my brother-in-law. After we incorporated the company in 2007, there was no contract; so, I discussed with Abiodun Agbele to help us get contract and jobs."Mr. Abiodun Agbele then asked me for a company in which we can use to get contract and I gave him the documents of J.J. Technical Limited. After giving him the documents, Agbele bought the property in J.J. Technical Limited's name and I signed for the property."Afterwards, the EFCC froze my bank accounts, invited me to the office and seized my international passport after I was told that I was involved in a shady deal that has to do with the property.
"I put a call through to Abiodun Agbele and I told him about the development and he said I should tell the EFCC that the property was truly mine. I made a statement to the EFCC on July 28, 2016, based on what Abiodun Agbele told me."Afterwards, my lawyer came to the Commission that same day and asked me secretly if I told the EFCC the truth about the property."I told my lawyer that I did not tell the truth and he immediately told me to go back and say the truth to the EFCC. I went back to write another statement in the EFCC, which stated the truth that I was not the owner of the property."
Upon cross-examination by the defence team the witness admitted making two statements to the EFCC. He stated that, "my first statement did not state the truth, but my second statement did say the truth".
When the prosecution counsel, Jacobs, raised an observation pertaining to Maron's second statement, Justice Olatoregun warned him that he should never re-evaluate her ruling. "Do not stand there with impetus and re-evaluate my ruling; your are incompetent to do so. If you have an objection, you go to the Appeal Court and stop blowing your wings in arrogance. You are extremely rude to have re-evaluated my ruling," the judge said.
Jacobs, in his response said he didn't re-evaluate her ruling. Justice Olatoregun thereafter, adjourned the case to April 15, 2019 for continuation of trial.
